Romeo & Juliet

Concept Statement

Graffiti was chosen to as means of distress to emphasize how young the characters are who die in battles with one another, as graffiti is often associated as a crime youths commit. The battle between the two families is represented by two opposing graffiti art styles. Capulets are the Banksy inspired graffiti - black, white, and blue color palette. Montagues are the Jean-Michel Basquiat inspired graffiti - red/pink, orange, and yellow color palette. The Capulet Estate/non graffitied side of the pillars are purposefully blank to show how while the upper class insights the political distress, it is the people who must face the aftermath of the violence.
